The colonial administrators established Mubende District around 1905. It is the third oldest district in Buganda region. Initially the district was composed of the counties of Buwekula, Buyaga and Bugangaizi with it’s headquartering at the present site under Buganda Kingdom. The district derives its name from the ancient Mubende hill, the seat of the first capital of the famous Chwezi Empire of Bunyoro Kitara founded by the Chwezi rulers almost six hundred years ago.
After Uganda’s independence, the people of the counties of Buyaga and Bugangaizi agitated under “Bunyoro Committee Movement” and through 1964 referendum voted to break away from Buganda Kingdom and joined the ancestral Bunyoro Kingdom this left Mubende with only one county – Buwekula.
The office of the CAO together with the heads of departments would like to extend its sincere thanks to sectional heads, L.III Chairpersons, and the community at large for the tireless effort exhibited towards the development of Mubende District.
I am pleased to say that value for money can now be realized in all sectors and departments more so at sub-county levels. This has been as a result of the continuous good relation ship of our sub-county Technical Staff and political leaders on the ground.
